Bran is an Old English name that means “a hillside covered with broom”. There is another meaning of the name which is “raven”. It is believed that the head of Bran the Blessed, a Welsh giant of a man and also a British king, is buried under the Tower of London. This belief is what is offered as the explanation as to why ravens are kept at the Tower.
