Edsel
Germanic
Small father
Edsel is ultimately derived from Attila. Attila is a very common name in both Hungary and Turkey where it is given as a first name. “Atta” in Gothic means 'father' and the suffix just meant 'little', giving the meaning to the name. There are a number of versions of the name with the Hungarian version giving emphasis to the first syllable, while the American version gives emphasis to the second syllable. The most famous bearer of the name was “Attila the Hun”, a legendary warrior who almost brought the Roman Empire to its knees before he was slowed down.
