Loida is a variant of Lois. Lois originates in Greek language and means "the best". In the Bible, Lois was mentioned as the grandmother of Saint Timothy. As a feminine given name it used to be very popular in the middle of the 20th century, lately its usage has declined in the United States. It was popularized by the character of Lois Lane in the comic books and subsequent films about Superman.
