Lupe is a diminutive of Guadalupe. Guadalupe originates in Arabic language and means "from wolf's river". It refers to Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, or Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico, the Americas and secondary Patron of the Philippines. Guadalupe is a city in Extremadura, Spain, and it also refers to many places in the United States, South America and Mexico.
