Maquilla is a variant of Maquinna. Maquinna originates in Native American languages and its meaning is unclear. This was the name of the chief of the Nuuchah-nulth people of Nootka Sound on the Pacific Coast in the 18th century. These people now reside in British Columbia, Canada, and are known as the Mowachaht. As a masculine given name, Maquinna is very rare in the United States these days.
