Medea originates in Greek language and means "cunning lady". In Greek mythology, she was an important woman, sorceress and the wife of Jason, a famous Greek leader of the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece. The story of Medea and Jason was popularized in the ancient Greek tragedy of the same name written by Euripides in the 5th century. As a feminine given name Medea is very rare in the United States.
