Paris originates in Gaulish language and means "crafty". It is the name of the capital city of France, situated in northern France and named after the Gaulish tribe Parisii, the first inhabitants of the area. It is more often used as a female name, probably due to its popularization by Paris Hilton, American actress and celebrity. As a male name, it is most likely derived from the Greek meaning of Paris. In Greek mythology, Paris was a son of the king of Troy and he initiated the Trojan war by kidnapping Helen, the queen of Sparta.
