Mate, companion
Ruth originates in Hebrew language and means "mate, companion". Ruth was a young woman of Moab, the main figure in The Book of Ruth, one of the books of Old Testament. She was the great-grandmother of David and an ancestor of Jesus. As a Christian name, it started being used after the Protestant Reformation. It was popularized by President's Grover Cleveland's daughter, 'Baby' Ruth Cleveland.
