Ulla is a Scandinavian diminutive of Ulrika. Ulrika originates in Germanic languages and means "powerful and prosperous". It is a feminine form of Ulrich and is mostly popular in Scandinavian countries. Its variant, Ulrica was a female character in Walter Scott's Ivanhoe. Ulrika is also the name of two Swedish queens.
