Vasilisa originates in Greek language and means "queen". It is a feminine form of Vasiliy, itself derived from the Greek name Basil. Vasilisa is a popular name in Russian culture, the main character in many Russian fairy-tales, as well as the name of a 3rd century Christian child martyr.
