Honey's Story

**Honey is currently being fostered in Houston. Her adoption will be out-of-state and unfortunately, meeting her prior to adoption will not be possible. Her adoption fee is $500, which includes her flight home, a new kennel, and of course she is fully vetted. Because flight costs are so high, the adoption fee is non-negotiable.**

Honey came to us as soon many of our sweet dogs do, disposed of at a local high kill shelter after being bred too many times to count. The local shelter staff reached out and asked if we could possibly make room for her as the staff would have no choice but to euthanize her because of lack of space. One look at this sweet girl inside of her kennel at the shelter and we couldn’t imagine not making room to rescue her. Honey, named for her sweet disposition and beautiful honey color, is the most loving and affectionate girl. She will meet you every day with a wag of her entire body and squeeze in close for a good bottom scratch (her favorite thing). Her eyes light up when she knows that love, and maybe a cookie, are coming her way!

Honey is a Boxer mix, weighing in at just around 45 pounds and is a squatty little lady. The vet estimates that she is roughly 3-4 years-old. Unfortunately, her former life was clearly not kind to her and she bears some physical scars of a life most likely lived entirely outside. She has some missing patches of fur indicative of living on concrete and has momma parts that have been permanently stretched from having so many litters of puppies. She is also heartworm positive, which is not uncommon for dogs who have had little preventative care, but has been started on her slow-kill heartworm protocol and the rescue will supply the medications necessary to complete her treatment. She has sustained no damage to her heart or lungs from the worms and is not in pain. It is just a matter of making sure she gets her medication and they should clear up within 10-12 months.

Honey has a medium level of activity. She is active, but not overly so and has not had any issues with destructive behaviors in the house. She loves to play with other dogs and to lay out in the yard just soaking up some sun and fresh air. With proper stamina training, she would make a great running buddy and would love to be her family’s companion in all of their adventures. Honey’s energy level would make her an excellent dog to live in an apartment or condo setting (but renters should be sure to check for breed restrictions). Honey would make an excellent addition to a family, her gentle disposition makes her well suited for children who have been taught to properly and gently interact with dogs.

Honey has been fully vetted, and aside from the previously mentioned heartworms, is healthy with no know allergies or health issues. She has been spayed, dewormed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

The first step in our adoption process is to complete an adoption application, which can be located under the adoptables tab on our website www.reggiesfriends.org
