Hercules's Story

Our rescue will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express Saturday, July 2nd and Sunday, July 3rd from 12-3pm. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped.

* If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. * We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes. Arrangements to meet dogs occur after an approved application has been accepted. * We do not ship our dogs for any reason. * Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on @DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: www.facebook.com/DPSRescue

This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 30th and Sunday, July 31st from 12-3pm or until adopted. However, we do meet with those who submit an application and are approved just prior to the event (by invitation only) and they are given the first opportunity to adopt. If you are interested in one of our dogs, we recommend filling out an application prior to the event to be considered. Applications submitted within 24 hours of the event may not necessarily be reviewed.

Hercules is a 3 year old Corgi-Shiba mix who was originally surrendered to our rescue by his owners. He weighs 20.2 lbs. They were moving and unable to take him.

Hercules is an option to live by himself as he has for the last year or to live with another dog as he did originally. He is definitely more people oriented. Our first thought before was that he needed a dog for confidence but no way! Once he trusts you, which we found especially with females, can be in like 10 seconds, he is yours forever. But don`t fret our male friends out there. He likes guys too. He currently is fostered by the world`s greatest foster Dad. Their a duo and they`re total sports buds. They hang out on the couch watching sports and drinking, um, yes, water...cough....cough...He met our volunteers at the event and less than 2.5 seconds later he was climbing all over them, kissing them and wanting to be with them. Now, is he going to be like this with everyone who walks in your home? No. But if you`re a leader and you direct the house and the dog does not control the home, it`s less likely he will be insecure and need to feel like he has to control things. If you can be his leader and be his confidence then all will be good.

Hercules knows how to use the doggy door. When he came into our rescue he had never been inside the house so it was an all new experience. It took him about a week to get used to the doggy door.

Hercules lived in a foster home with a very dog savvy cat. He will chase outside cats. He left the indoor cat alone.

Hercules is not a dog for a novice or first time dog owner. He`s best suited for someone who is dog savvy. Unless there are very dog savvy teenagers who don`t have a lot of friends over, kids are not advisable.

**Not all of our dogs go to each adoption event. We want to make sure if you are interested in a dog that we have the dog at adoptions but that can only happen if you fill out an application ahead of time and are pre-approved. (Generally this must happen prior to the weekend)

**If you are wanting to submit an application within 24 hours of an event, please print off the application and bring with you as well as submitting it. You may still submit it and if time and volunteers permit, we will contact you. Most applications submitted the weekend of adoptions are not responded to until after the adoption weekend.
