Brody D5104 (was D4141's Story

Brody`s time was up and had no options left so we rushed to shelter to save him. He was a bit aloof at first but was ok with a little time. He had already bonded with one of the male shelter care givers. When we tested Brody with a fake hand on stick near his food bowl he growled softly with the intention of guarding the food. Otherwise he is fine with hand offering and taking away of treats. At a doggie day care Brody has been observed as being social friendly and playful. At a dog park he is good with other dogs but needs some supervision during initial meetings especially with larger dogs. At his current foster home Brody is getting some basic training. He knows sit down stay and play dead. He has learned to leave the kitchen area and not beg when told. He enjoys running around in the yard chasing a ball and tug-o-war with a toy. He generally knows to do his business outside but has eliminated inside the house a few times. This is not a problem when he is let out or taken outside every few hours. He is happy to sleep on the floor in his bed and does not try to get up on the furniture. He is good on a leash but wants to mark often. He shows interest in other dogs while on the walk but does not strain on the leash or bark. He does not react to loud noises cars trucks or other people. Off leash he follows his pack leader without question. (He was totally calm all through the noises during the July 4th holiday.) With people he knows Brody is cuddly and happy to be snuggling in a lap. With strangers at the door and people arriving for a party he will bark until told to stop. After the first few arrivals at a party he doesn`t bark any more and is friendly with all attendees. He shows his independent nature by not trying to be the center of attention at the party or when his guardian is busy. Brody needs a permanent home that can give him more training exercise rules boundaries and love. The adopting family should have no kids due to his food guarding issue and occasional `leave me alone` attitude. Even though he can be a bit stubborn he can easily be controlled on a leash such as when he needs to go into a crate. The home should have previous experience with dogs and have a kind but strong leader skills to guide him. Brody is a real cutie and gets lots of attention at the showcases and wherever he goes. If you have the right dog experience he would love to be your next forever dog.
