Goldie is a 2 year old 54 pound neutered, vaccinated pit bull mix. He was rescued by his previous owner from the shelter as a puppy. He and his siblings had been abandoned and/or taken from their mother at a very young age and were all stuck into a small kennel together. They only had one food bowl and had to scramble over one another for food. They say he probably got scraps, as he was the tiniest of the bunch. His previous owner took him in and did a very good job with training him. He was housebroken, crate-trained, and learned/mastered his basic commands (sit, down, stay, heel, and come) both on and off leash. He also learned both verbal commands and hand signals for the commands. He also knows ‘leave it,’ ‘drop it,’ and ‘take it’ very well. He knows some tricks too (roll-over, shake, and beg)! His previous owners were planning on keeping him, but got evicted from their house and had nowhere to take Goldie, as they are now currently living with another relative who is very anti-pit bull. She tried to find a place for him to go, because she felt he deserved someone who had the time and stability for him, so I offered to foster him until we could find this boy his forever home. He is a very active dog. He wants nothing more than to please people and always greets others with a wagging tail and lolling tongue. He is amazing with kids, as he grew up with two young boys. He does okay with dogs but needs a bit more socialization (he really loves to play, he just needs to learn when play time is over). He does better with dogs who are mellower than he is. He is not good with cats, however. On walks, he does not pull at all. He will attempt to do so under heavy distraction (i.e. dog walking by or cat nearby) but he responds to `heel` very well and is instantly back to walking side-by-side. He also knows how to wear a backpack, gentle leader, and prong collar without protest. He loves going on runs, walks, and hikes, but the best part about him is that he really just wants to please people.
