Star is a beautiful four-year-old female Husky/Lab/Shepherd mix originally rescued from the Animal Friends of the Valleys Shelter in Wildomar. I tend to believe that her personality is more like a Shepherd/Husky, but her downward ears makes me think that she has some Lab in her too (since Huskies and Shepherds are both ears up dogs). Weighing about 54 lbs., Star has a very pretty gray, cream and tan tri-colored coat. She is sweet, endearing, warm, and sometimes a little bit silly with a bit of spunk. She is quite people-oriented and is responsive to being called and enjoys being petted. She meets all dogs fine, but seems especially gentle towards little dogs. Star walks well using a prong collar for control, and also rides well in the car. She has a protective side, whereby she will alert bark when someone comes to the door or to the fence or gate. She is not a nuisance barker. She has been exposed to children, and was wonderful with them, completely gentle and loved interacting with them. We do not know how she is with cats. She understands the concept of the doggie door. She rides well in the car.

Typical to her breed, Star wants to hang out in the same room that the humans are in. She loves to be near you and she is very chill. Star must be an indoor dog with outside access. She cannot be excluded to the outdoors. She must be allowed in the house to mingle with and hang with the family, and she must be allowed to sleep inside the house. Due to her coat, she does require some minimal grooming, mostly regular brushing and an occasional bath. She is potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and sleeps in a large 42 inch wire crate at night. Star is a smart dog, who trains easily, and who also appreciates the owner/dog relationship. She longs to be loved and appreciated by her people.

Star’s story: Star’s story is a sad one. From a young puppy to age three, Star had been to the pound about three times for no other reason than lack of commitment from those who had her and not because of anything she did wrong. (Part of the reason is that the area of the shelter is a very low income one.) As a puppy, she was adopted, only to be returned for some flaky reason. Then, adopted two more times and returned. I cannot recall the reasons but they were things like ‘we are moving’, or ‘life changed and we can no longer take care of her’ type reasons. So when Angel’s Heart rescued her from the shelter in May of 2015, we were optimistic to find her an established home, and so having found that, she was adopted in June of 2015. Now, a year later, the adopter’s life situation has changed so dramatically that she feels that she can no longer give Star the attention she needs. Apparently, Star is now alone all of the time, or needs to go to pet sitters or boarding for days at a time, sometimes weeks, as the adopter is now required to travel extensively for her work. So with great sadness, she returned Star to the rescue. At this point, Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is seeking a well-established couple or family whereby upon an initial adjustment and report that things are working, can thereafter provide Star with a forever home. We realize that life can turn on a dime in a dramatic way for anyone, and we always seek to understand that, but truly there are some who maintain more stability in their logistics. And Star is SUCH a sweet dog! We feel that she deserves better!

Star is spayed, fully vaccinated (including rabies), front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Star, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: [email protected].
