Ryder's Story
AN INQUIRY FROM PETFINDER IS NOT AN APPLICATION! READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR INFORMATION HOW TO APPLY. Meet Ryder! Ryder is a 9-10 month old male chihuahua mix and he weighs about 6.5 pounds. Ryder arrived in rescue after arriving at animal services from a home with way too many dogs. He has settled into foster care and is learning how to "dog", but will need a patient, dog experienced family willing to continue to work with him using positive reinforcement, as he is still very puppy in his antics:) His foster mom says he would like to introduce himself: My name is Ryder and I’d like to tell you a bit about myself. I am a small lad, under 7 pounds, who is still young at under a year old. I came into foster care from a home with too many dogs and a bunch of us were moved out of there. I am a mixed breed pup, likely some terrier and Chihuahua. I came into foster care not knowing much about people and they scare me a bit. I warmed up to my Foster Mom and Dad, they put this thing called a collar on me, then a harness, then a leash, and now we go for walks. I love to explore and am always wondering why they walk so slow! There are things to see out here! They tell me I need to learn some manners. They have a big, secured backyard I can play in, and would love one of them in my forever home. I have been crate trained, but they have to catch me to go into the one during the daytime. I don’t mind the nighttime crate, I get tired and need to sleep, too. I can sleep in the big bed, too. Right now, they put a belly band on me at nighttime if I’m on the big bed. I’m pretty good about going potty on the puppy pad, but sometimes I think other things are a puppy pad and it isn’t. My Foster Mom says with some training I’d be a star because I’m a smart boy. I’m not a big eater, I can be a little picky, but if you are eating it, I guess I can try a bite or two. Foster Mom says I’m part goat and that is why some training would be beneficial. I like to find things and carry them around. I think it’s fun to play the floor is lava – I almost always win! I find all kinds of things when I play - remotes, glasses, charging cables – white ones are my favorite! Mom says I am pure puppy, full of energy and orneriness. I am learning what I can and can’t have, where I can and can’t be, but it’s a lot all at once. Mom says giving me bully sticks to chew on has curbed some of my goat like tendencies. I’ve been around other dogs my size, but I don’t know what this thing called a cat is. I would probably want to play with it. Everything to me is an opportunity to play. My Foster sister is an older dog, and it took her a while to want to play with me, but we have a good time. I need a home where my people will spend time with me, be patient while I get to know them, take me to this thing called training, and in return I’ll be a fiercely loyal guardian. I will bark to let my humans know there is someone near or something they need to know. Mom says I would not make a good shared wall neighbor, so no apartments please, and also no young kiddos. Mom also says to remind folks I am a puppy and I need positive reinforcement for learning new things. Ryder is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and has had his teeth cleaned. Ryder is fostered in the Orlando area and his adoption donation is $325.
