Sam's Story
Meet Sam! This feisty furball is looking for a patient and loving home where his spitfire personality can truly shine. Adopting Sam will be a labor of love that we feel is absolutely worth the time and effort to tame. At a mere 5.4lbs he has had to build a tough persona to survive. Once he knows you, he is all about the snuggles!! But until then, he is reactive to other pets and strangers. Because of this we feel it's best for him to be in a home with no small children. Older children may be ok, but it depends on the kids and their experience with small temperamental dogs. If you were so tiny in this scary world, you would probably react the same way! Don’t let his fur-ocious attitude deter you though. He is an absolute cuddle bug and submissive once he learns new people can be trusted. He would make an excellent guard dog as no one will sneak up on you during his watch! Sam is doing great in his foster home and is learning “stay” and working on potty training. He will need a consistent routine with a family who understands the challenge of a small, nervous bladder. He uses a puppy pad and his foster mom is working on outdoor potty training. This tiny fawn apple head chihuahua has a big personality and truly does have so much love to give his new family. He would make an excellent only pet or can be homed with other pets who understand this little pint size bossy pants will now be ruling the roost! We also have his buddy Max up for adoption and they can be adopted together or separately. As you can see, we try to be very honest in describing our rescue pups, but rest assured, within the first week his foster mom has fallen madly in love with him and said she will 100% keep him if we can't find a wonderful forever home. So despite his macho personality, he really is the most lovable little guy!!! He just needs the right adopter who is willing to be patient and doesn't mind wading through a little attitude at first. Haha! At the end of our application where it says "Is there anything else you would like us to know?" that would be a good place to convince us that you are ready to welcome home this spicy little fella. He has a LOT of love to give, but will make you work for it. LOL! When we're deciding on the right home for Sam, we'll take into consideration your household make up. Sam is most suited for a low traffic home and he will be protective over his main person, so we want to make sure your family dynamics is equipped to handle that and help him learn to share his affections for others in the house as well, as it might take time. He bonds very strongly with his person. Sam is estimated to be 2-3 years old. He's got a clean bill of health and is up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. He's got a neuter appointment on the books so he'll be fixed before heading to his new home. ******** To apply for adoption, please go to www.animalaidms.org/adopt and complete our online application. If your application is approved and you're a great fit for Sam, we will reply with a phone call. We may also reach out about other dogs in our rescue that are similar and/or another wonderful option for you. Note: Please submit an application through our website at link above. We need that actual application and not simply a Petfinder inquiry. Be sure to complete the entire application as incomplete applications will not reach us. The dog you are considering is located in South Mississippi. We conduct virtual meet and greets for out-of-town applicants and can provide for transport (fee added to cost of adoption) to many northeastern states. At this time we are not able to transport into Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine or Rhode Island.
