Tucker's Story

Meet 9 month old Tucker, the lovable, goofy pup who’s full of charm! Tucker is 99% house trained and needs to go outside immediately after being crated. He's fully crate trained and sleeps soundly in it at night. Like any puppy, he has a bit of a destructive side, especially when it comes to chewing, but the good news is that his indoor chewing habits are getting better. Tucker isn’t a barker and is dog-friendly. When he encountered four off-leash dogs while on a leash, he was a bit timid but showed no signs of aggression. We’re not sure how he would do with cats, but based on his intense interest in chickens, he probably wouldn’t be the best match for a home with cats. This sweet boy loves kids and has a great medium energy level. He enjoys his bursts of puppy excitement but also knows how to relax. Tucker gets very excited when people enter the room but calms down after a few minutes. He’s working on his jumping—he’s getting better about it and doesn’t jump on kids anymore. However, he does need a couple of reminders to stay down with adults. Tucker is a face licker when it comes to little kids, so be prepared for some slobbery love! Tucker walks well on a leash and is his foster dad’s shadow. He rides well in the car on the short trips he’s been on. He knows basic commands like “sit,” “down,” and “to your room” (for his crate). Although he respects baby gates, even though he could easily jump over them, he can be a bit stubborn if he doesn’t want to do something—sometimes freezing and using his weight to resist being moved. This is a work in progress. He loves being involved in everything and enjoys playing tug of war, chasing a ball, chewing toys, snuggling, and running the fence line while the neighbor’s dog barks at him. Tucker is very food motivated, so treats go a long way in his training. Show him a kiddy pool, and he turns into a joyful, hopping lunatic—it’s his favorite thing! Tucker’s ideal home would be an active one with older kids (8-10+) who can keep up with his playful energy. A family that likes spending time outdoors is a must, especially since he loves being outside with the kids. A big yard is essential, and shallow water is his playground! He’d be happiest in a home where his people are around most of the time, and he’s not one to respect personal space, so a family that doesn’t mind his face being close to theirs will be perfect. Tucker isn’t aware of his size, and he can be a bit intrusive, often leaning his whole body against you when he wants affection, pinning you down with his love. Another dog in the home would be great for him, as he doesn’t like being left alone for too long. If not, he needs people who are around frequently to keep him company. Once he’s better trained and over his chewing habit, Tucker could even be a good companion to take to work! A fenced yard is important for Tucker’s safety, as his goofy nature could lead him to wander off after an interesting scent. However, he’s not an escape artist—he doesn’t dig or jump fences and is content staying in the yard for extended periods. That said, he can be pushy about walking out the front door, so keep an eye on him! While Tucker loves kids, he’s best suited for a home with older ones who can “stand up to him” during training. His size and enthusiasm have made his foster’s young son anxious, not because Tucker means any harm—he’s incredibly gentle—but because his long legs and big paws sometimes get him into trouble during playtime with smaller kids. Cuddling is Tucker’s favorite thing, and if he’s not allowed on the bed, he’ll happily settle for the couch. If he can’t cuddle, he’ll make sure to be touching you in some way—whether it’s a paw, tail, or his head. Tucker loves to give kisses, and if he could occupy the same physical space as you, he absolutely would. His signature body lean is his way of showing just how much he adores you. Tucker is looking for a loving family that wants to share their life with a goofy, affectionate, and playful pup. If you’re ready for endless cuddles, kisses, and a companion who will stick by your side, Tucker is the dog for you!
